Is blogging still a thing?

In short, YES! There are still benefits to blogging.

I know people assume that video is king so therefore blogs must be out, but statistics are showing that blogs are still pretty popular.  The term ‘blogging’ is still a consistent trend on Google.

Some mind-blowing blogging stats

  • According to Internet Live Stats, on average, over 3 million blog posts are published per day. On the WordPress platform, over 70 million blog posts are published each month.
  • According to Statista, 77% of bloggers worldwide chose “How-to” articles as the most popular blog content format.
  • According to Optin Monster, companies who blog get 97% more links to their websites.
  • According to Optin Monster, around 95.9% of bloggers promote their blog posts via social media.

Obviously, blogs are still effective if you want to generate more traffic.

The benefits of blogging for online businesses

🌟 Drives traffic

This goes without saying.  EVERYTHING you do on your digital platforms is ultimately to drive people to your website, because this is where all your good stuff is: free resources, services/products, offers, etc.  Driving traffic to your website includes your social media and newsletters.  This is why I’m a big believer in creating your own ‘Linktree’ equivalent page on your own website, so you’re always driving traffic to your own website and not a 3rd party, especially with Instagram’s ‘Link in the bio’.  Anyway, that’s a different blog – you can check it out on Should You Use Linktree.

🌟 Increases your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

Fresh content like new blog pages generates more attention from search engines.  As a business you can appear high in ranking just by having a regular blog.

🌟 Stand out as the expert

As long as you are blogging about topics in your ecosystem – check out Going Zero Content Waste, this will help you to build credibility in your area of expertise.  This goes a long way to building your ‘know, like and trust’ factors.

🌟 Strengthen your brand

A blog is a really great way to get your brands personality across.  We hear it all the time, ‘people buy people’ so if you’re a solopreneur or small business a blog is a great way to share a bit of you.

🌟 Free publicity

Blogging for your business about your expertise gives people the opportunity to share your content and link back to your website (also good for your SEO).

🌟 Build relationships and trust

Blogs show both current and potential customers what value your business can provide.  It shows what pain point you can fix and how.

🌟 Grow your email list

Because you’re building trust, positioning yourself as an expert and building relationships the next step is to turn your readers into subscribers and a blog is a great way to do that.

🌟 Repurpose for other digital platforms (I can talk about this for HOURS!!)

Writing a blog is a great way to save you time, stop content block and help you to keep consistent across all of your digital platforms.

A monthly blog about a topic in your ecosystem, which is divided up into 4/5 separate subheadings, can then be broken up:

👉🏼 One blog for your website

👉🏼 Four subheadings become weekly newsletters throughout the month (one subheading a week).

👉🏼 Break you blog down even further to create your social media posts:

  • Static
  • Carousel
  • Reels / video
  • Animated

With one piece of content, you can take care of your website SEO, weekly email nurturing and all your social media. 💃🏼

AND…sorry I’m not done, if you make sure you use your brand colours, fonts etc across all of your platforms you’ll be ensuring your brand, brand voice and brand message is consistent across ALL of your platforms, Every blinking month! 🎺

Blogging top tips

🌟 Be patient

If you are patient, persistent and consistent you will see results.

🌟 Invest in your blog

If a well written blog is going to save you time on newsletters and social media content, then it’s worth investing in.  If you’re not a writer, then get someone to do it for you or invest in AI software.

🌟 Guest blog

If you have a fellow business owner who links in with your business in some way, ask them to write a guest blog.  You can link to their website helping their SEO, maybe they could return the opportunity.

🌟 Have a blog strategy

Whether you are a seat of the pants kind of planner or have your next 30/60/90 days planned, a blog strategy is a good idea.  You could even plan the next 12 months but think about what you’ve got coming up in your business, what you’re launching, appearing, hosting, producing etc and try and tie it together.

🌟 Industry trends

Having a blog strategy for the year is ideal but be flexible.  You need to be aware of any relevant breaking news or industry trends and address them straight away to stay current.

🌟 Think digitally

When writing your blog think about how you can break it down for your other platforms:

👉🏼 Subtopics for your newsletters.

👉🏼 Bullet points for social media carousel posts, reels and animated posts.

👉🏼 Quotes for social media static posts.

👉🏼 Steps / Stages for social media reels and info graphics

👉🏼 Video how to / interview for your memberships, evergreen courses and social media groups.
