Repurposing Content

Simply means taking your digital asset and recycling it elsewhere.

It’s a really good way to:

  • Reach new audience
  • Improve your SEO
  • Increase your organic visibility
  • Saves you time and resources
  • Helps you reinforce your message

If you write a weekly/monthly blog, from that blog you could:

  • Create your weekly/monthly newsletter
  • Break it down to create several social media posts.  Geneie Tip: Use my Canva templates to create the graphics to accompany these posts and save even more time.
  • Create a podcast
  • Make a video
  • Ask an associate if you can guest blog for them
  • Create a lead magnet and use it to build your email list

Genie Tip: Remember you are the only person who sees 100% of your content.

I was talking to a marketing expert not so long ago and she informed me that from one blog she managed to create over 100 pieces of separate content.  Why not have a competition with yourself!

Historical Content?

Audit your previous content because you’ll be surprised how much you have and breath new life into historical content like blogs.

  • Update them and put a note to where they can find the original post.
  • If you have a blog that still performs well then think about giving it a make-over instead creating a new post.
  • Keep all your blogs in a folder that way you can dip into it for repurposing.
  • Find previous social media posts that have performed well.
  • Check your websites about section.

Evergreen Content!

Make sure any content you repurpose is evergreen.

Evergreen content is timeless material that lasts over time and doesn’t become obsolete.

Avoid anything that can date your content:

  • Dates
  • Referring to current affairs, current films or music (unless they themselves are timeless)
  • Referencing certain times of the year, for example, now it’s the new year, summer holidays etc.

We’ll explore evergreen content in more detail in a later blog.

FYI – When I’ve written that blog I will come back to this blog and put the link in. 😉

Spin Offs

Create new spin off blogs from previous blogs and create a collection. With enough you might be able to create an ebook.  Make sure the content is evergreen.

Present It

Create presentation slides from any statistics, information and advice you’ve collated.  Canva has a great selection of slide deck templates.

Infographic

If your story/blog is data heavy then an infographic is a great way to share that information.  Canva has inforgraphic templates but you could also try Picktochart.

Summary

Repurposing content is a savvy way to save you more time.  It’s also a great way to improve your SEO and increase your audience organically.  Check out your content scheduler and see if there are any gaps you can plug with repurposed content.  It’s also an excellent way to encourage you to plan ahead and formulate a strategy between old and new content.
